Pool is a highly competitive game unlike most other billiards. It is popular throughout the world. There are many variants of this game, but the most common are the eight and nine ball pools. Pool matches are often played over multiple games. After a certain number frames, the winner is declared. The winner is usually awarded 61 points. For different winning numbers, handicaps are possible.

The main goal of the game is to pot all the balls designated to be pounded. Each ball pocketed is worth 1 point. Additional balls can be added to your score. A player usually wins if they get the eight balls first. If a player does not pocket the eight ball, they lose the game. The eight ball must be pocketed during fouls. Any other balls not pocketed during fouls will be spotted and pocketed. But, the foul is not counted towards the points. A player who commits two fouls consecutively is required to be informed before they can play their next shot.

The balls can be divided into three sets: striped or solid balls, object balls, and striped ones. These balls are usually smaller than American-style balls and come in a range of colors, including dark violets for the four and twelve balls. The object balls used to be all-red in the past. However, they are often multi-colored these days. They can be made out of wood, fibreglass, or carbon fibre. There are three most common sizes for ball diameters: 2+1/16", 2 inches and 3 inches.

The object of the game is to pocket the black eight ball. To do so, the player must pocket all the balls that are assigned to be pounded, but he must make sure that all the balls that are pocketed are spotted and placed in direct lines to the foot rail. The eight balls are placed back on to the table. After that, the player who has the eight ball can decide if he wants it to end or continue.

The player can take a ball and pocket it without fouling. He or she must place the ball in the exact spot at the foot of the player calling the shot. If a foul is committed during the course of the shot, the other balls that were pocketed must be placed in direct line to the foot spot. A foul does not count towards points. However, a player will be awarded a free shot. This shot can also be played with any other ball.

If a player takes a shot, they have to pocket the ball in their own pocket. The ball in the front row, and the ball in the center of the table, are the balls that must be hit first. If a foul occurs before a ball can be pocketed, then the ball in front row must be again pocketed. A player can also pocket other balls.
