Shaun Murphy is an international snooker player. He is known for his long-potting and straight cue actions. In his career, he has been able to achieve over 400 century breaks. This includes the second highest break in the Championship League for 2014.

Murphy was ranked number 3 in the world at start to the 2008/2009 Season. Murphy dropped to number seven for 2010/2011. In 2011 he won the Players Tour Championship and completed his career Triple Crown. Murphy was considered a huge underdog at the time, and it was a surprising win. He reached the final of UK Championship in 2012. But, he was defeated by Judd Trump who became the eventual winner.

Murphy is considered a highly skilled player. He has many firsts in his professional career. Among these are his first 147 break, his first ranking title, and his first World Snooker Championship appearance.

Murphy won China's Wuxi Classic. Murphy was elected to the elite top 16 after that win. His next appearance was the inaugural Northern Ireland Trophy. Despite playing only five frames in the tournament's qualifying round, he advanced to the quarterfinals beating teenager Luca Brecel.

He then won the German Masters Championship, the Ruhr Championship, as well the inaugural Northern Ireland Trophy. For the 2008/2009 season, he remained at number three. He also reached semi-finals in both the UK Championship Championship and Shanghai Masters.
