It is important to be able and confident in your pool shots. It can mean the difference between winning and falling. There are a number of different types of shots, and each one has its own rules and techniques. But you cannot just hit the ball. It's important to hit it hard. You can increase your chances of it pocketing.
A stunshot is a shot which requires a strong hit. In straight pool games, this means that the cueball must travel straight in and not divert from its intended course. This is often achieved by putting a jack up, or elevating the butt end of the cue.
A "break" shot is one that is taken at the last OB in a straight-pool game. There are several types of break shots. Some are designed to help you escape trouble while others are to help make it easier for you to score. One such example is the golden breaks, or the Golden Pocket.
Another option is the break out shot or break-out. This type is a great way to score quick shots when the ball cluster moves out of position. If your shot is lucky, it will cause a jarring effect on your opponent, which can put him in a bad position. Often, a good hit will result in an OB that is still on the table, making it harder to knock the ball off.

But a "break" does not guarantee a win. The following are other ways you can achieve the same result:
Grade "A" shot is one that is highly likely to succeed. A good hit can strike the OB first and then a second hit can take the OB.
Fancy shot: This skill is rare and requires a lot practice. This requires a fast, precise stroke, known as a J stroke. A "J", unlike a normal jab stroke, is curved and acts like a pendulum. The cue ball can be rolled in a jelly roll which is also beneficial to the shooter.
Fancy-looking - Another name for fancy-looking shots is a flight. Flight is a fancy shot that looks impressive but is not always the most accurate. Normally, a flight is a low percentage shot, such as a top/bottom spin or a flyer.
Stun shot: While a stun shot may not be as glamorous as other types of shots, it's actually pretty important. It's always a good idea have it on hand. Your opponent could easily win the game.

A stun shot can also be called the jelly roll or grade "B" shot. But which is the best?
A nip-draw is a good thing in pool because it keeps the CB on the table. A nip stroke is a little more complicated, as the follow through is minimal.
