The US Open 9 Ball Championship is a highly coveted title in nine-ball pool. It is held every year and attracts more than 1,000 spectators. A total prize fund of $148,000 will be awarded to 64 players in the competition. In addition, a $500 entry fee will be charged for the event.

Many notable names have been crowned US Open 9 Ball Champion. Earl Strickland was crowned the champion, along with Steve Mizerak and Mike Sigel. Efren Reyes, "The Magician", is the best pocket billiards player. In his career, he has won one U.S. Open Championship and one World Championship.

Luther Lassiter died in 1988. He was a legendary road player and won six world 9 ball championships. His long career saw him surpassing many top players in his time. In the end, however, Lassiter would have won a lot more if there had been more nine-ball tournaments.
