Each type of scoring has its own rules and strategies, but they all require good timing, concentration, and skill.
Breakoff must be taken if a cue ball is thrown into the baulk. A breakoff is when the cue ball is played and is not pocketed. Instead, the cue ball bounces back at the player. Once the cue is in the baulk area, the player can choose to either continue playing, return the ball to the original spot or play an indirect stroke. The cue ball must travel down the short rail, into the baulk and back to the player when it hits it.
The player can aim the cue ball into the same spot if the ball is returning towards them. They can also take a kick shot that bounces the cueball off the rail. To be able to pick the right shot for you, it is essential that you understand the differences between the shots.
Also, players need to be familiar with the diamond system. These are diamonds that are placed on the side of the billiards table to help the player aim. A triangle is one the most used aids in positioning balls. Another type is an open-bridge and a bone shoot.

You should also be able to take a shot comfortably. If you find it difficult to shoot comfortably, you may need to use a manual bridge or sight down your cuestick. However, it is important to practice every shot before going out on a match.
